Rocks

Rocks.
Rocks dominate the west as they do no where else in the country. We can't escape them. Folks in the midwest and east and south have their rocks covered by plants and smoothed over by glaciers. They have been ground up into soil. Ours stick out and get in the way of almost everything. That's what makes the west so beautiful - you can see the forces that have lifted up mountains, carved out valleys, spewed out lava. For river runners, they create rapids, grab hold of your boat and tear it up or flip it over or park you in the middle of a river. They form the backbone of all the gravity sports. They are a playground for the climbers. They are infinitely interesting.

I enjoy painting them. It's mostly my own interest as many people don't gravitate to portraits of rocks. So, here are a few orphan paintings of my fascination with rocks.
